Attendance Policy

• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to your child's educational success. • If your child is sick and will not be attending school for the day, call the office (651-293-8625) and let them know (or leave a voicemail message). It is school policy that children bring a written excuse upon returning to school after an absence. • Excused absences may include illness, family emergency such as death, and religious holidays. A school has the right to accept or deny an application for excused absence. • Under Minnesota State Law, a student who has missed three or more periods on three days without a valid excuse is considered truant. • Tardies occur when a student is not in class by the school start time of 8:05 a.m. Three unexcused tardies equal an absence. • Families will be referred to the Ramsey County Truancy Intervention Project if a student becomes truant.

Communications

• Telephone Calls: We will inform your child of any emergency messages you may need to convey. (Please avoid calling students directly.) • Emergency School Closing: In the event of severe weather, listen to WCCO (830 on the AM dial) for the listing of school closings or http://www.spps.org

Emergency Procedure

• If a child is injured or becomes ill during school hours: the school nurse or office personnel will attempt to reach the parent/guardian at home or work; the parent/guardian will be requested to pick up the child; if the parent/guardian cannot be reached, the emergency number listed on your emergency card (which you fill out at the beginning of the school year) will be called; If we are unable to contact an adult responsible for the child and the child appears critically injured or ill, paramedics will be called (Parents are billed for paramedic calls.) • It is essential that an emergency number be recorded in office records. Please keep the office updated of any changes.
