7:55-8:05 Opening... read the message board and do an interactive piece
or morning work and prepare for the day by turning in work and finding
our seat for morning meeting.
8:05-8:30 Morning Meeting-greeting, sharing, game, news and announcement with interactive piece.
8:15 Announcement on speaker
8:35-9:00Reader's Workshop...during this time, students work on reading
independently, in guided reading groups, in book clubs ( literature
circles), participating in author's chair, and meeting for book talks
with journal letter writing on their "just right" read book. Reading
skills are also incorporated during this time: comprehension, author
study, fluency in reading...
9:00-10:05 Skills Block: Language...during this time, students are working on spelling, vocabulary,and grammar.
10:03-10:45 Enrichment
10:45 prepare for recess and lunch.
10:55-11:40 Lunch and Recess
11:45-1:00 Math...during this
time, students are in a whole group working on the math lesson. We
then move into independent work. In the afternoon, we move into
flexible groups to supplement what we have worked on in the morning.
Skills Block( Math) during this time, students are working in flexible
groups on certain skills that would build on their understanding of
lessons covered through Every Day Math.
1:00-2:00Writer's Workshop...students are building on their writer's workshop
notebook and leading the writerly life. During this time, we work
through the writing process ( first draft, second draft, and final
copy). We end the writing piece with sharing of our writing piece. A
certificate of completion and celebration follows.
2:20-2:35
Closing...during this time, the students gather for closing circle and
we discuss and evaluate our day. We end the day with a positive note
to one another.
*We also have Fast Math twice a week to increase computation skills in Math. *Students
also Star Read and Star Math test during the school year so students
are able to chart their reading and math levels and growth. *We have gym once or twice a week dependending on the day we are on:A,B, or C.
